Charlestown, Nevis - The future of Cricket in Nevis looks even more promising; thanks to the Corporate assistance of the TDC Group of Companies, the sponsors of the 2009 Inter-Primary Schools Cricket Tournament. The local firm fully endorsed the event in both cash and kind, at the official opening ceremony at Grove Park, in Charlestown.
Speaking on behalf of the Company, Ms. Keesha Jones, Manager of the St. Kitts-Nevis Finance Company Limited (FINCO), stated that, “Sports and its related activities is one of the hallmarks that continue to shape the social, financial, and cultural landscape of Nevis. As such, we recognize from a Corporate Social Responsibility perspective, how important it is to invest in this competition.”
“We remain dedicated to the development of Youth Cricket, as one of the best mediums through which we can empower and motivate the players, management teams and support staff to advance the game at the Primary School level.
Moreover, this venture presents an opportunity to partner with the Department of Sports, to further inspire our young boys (and eventually girls) to recognize their full potential, both on and off the field,” remarked Jones.
Ms. Lydia Claxton, Sports Coordinator in the Ministry of Education in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), with responsibility for the Programme, expressed words of appreciation and commendation to the company, as well as, the importance of having their unwavering support.
“This year’s Organizing Committee is very grateful to TDC for their continued pledge to this activity. The efforts in ensuring that this competition remains on the sporting calendar are commendable. We are very proud of our association with the Company and its support year after year,” said Claxton.
Seven (7) schools, namely the Joycelyn Liburd, St. John’s, Ivor Walters (defending champions), Charlestown, St. Thomas, Violet O. Jeffers Nicholls, and St. James Primary Schools will be keenly participating over the next three (3) weeks for the coveted Champions Cup.
