Basseterre, St. Kitts - Recognizing the important role that Education plays in today’s ever-changing society, the TDC Group of Companies continues to invest in programmes that seek to enhance the teaching and learning processes for both students and teachers, alike.
The local firm recently provided the necessary materials and fixtures to fully renovate and upgrade the Cayon Primary School’s Reading Recovery Room and the Teachers Conference Centre.
The two (2) projects formed part of their practicum leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education Administration, offered by the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Programme.
Mrs. Jacqueline Lewis-Bassue and Mrs. Valarie Mason-Richardson, the Project Coordinators, seized the opportunity to bring greater attention to the importance of literacy and numeracy, as well as emphasize the need for staff to gather in a common area to promote the spirit of fellowship and camaraderie.
Both educators, with over ten (10) years of service to the teaching fraternity, used the occasion at the official opening ceremony held recently, to acknowledge the invaluable contribution by the Company towards the ongoing advancement of the school.
“The successful renovation and completion of the Reading Recovery Room is due in large part to the assistance of TDC, through the Home and Building Depot. We are very grateful for their donation,” stated Lewis - Bassue in making her presentation.
“The support from TDC and its staff has allowed this project to become a reality. There is no doubt, that without their involvement, the Teachers Conference Centre, could have been transformed to provide a medium for teachers and auxiliary staff to interact in an environment that will encourage socialization, recreation, and entertainment,” remarked Mason - Richardson.
Over the past few months, the Company has given the same level of commitment to a number of other learning institutions in the Federation, such as, the Newton Ground and Sandy Point Primary Schools to name a few.
